Maybe in the early game it is enough to have a few forts in key provinces, but the further you go into the game, I think they are getting more and more important. Well, you are completly right, not buying a DLC limites you, of course :P I just meant that with all the changes they added, espacially with the building mechanics, it is more significant to not have this DLC, then all the others before. Being unable to upgrade your provinces probably just leaves you with the same tactics you used before, mainly conquer conquer conquer. EU4 is patched everytime a DLC comes out so it remains an amazing game. So the reason for me to start this discussion is not to hate on paradox or someone else, I am just wondering what are the experience of other people playing the game without the DLCs or playing it with just one or two of them. I have the feeling that without the possibilty to upgrade my provinces, I am missing out on a big part of the game, because it is limiting me quite a bit, but then again, this is just my opinion. I am aware of the fact that you are still able to build up your provinces, but only to a certain degree, even the best provinces in the game are only able to handle somewhere around five buildings. As I said, many of the other featuers that are coming along with the DLCs are nice, but not particulary necassery, the ability to build buildings that give you significant bonuses however, should be in the core game, at least how I see things.

Most of the features like transfering occupied provinces to allys in a war or upgrading ships with one click instead of disbanding them and build them up from the bottum are pretty convenient, but I could live without them.Īlthough, since the new patch came out, i feel pretty screwed, because without the DLC common Sense I am not able to upgrade my provinces.
